When new merchants set up their shopping cart account with 1AutomationWiz, one of the most common questions we get is…
“How do I run a test purchase?“
It’s understandable because nobody wants to use a real credit card to “test” that their new product links or payment gateway.
So Here’s How To Set Up A Test Purchase:
1: First set up a new product in your shopping cart control panel
2: Next, check to make sure the product link by clicking the Test the links (from within the product creation screen).
The shopping cart check out page will open and add the product to your cart, or check out page depending on which test link you used.
3: Now use this universal Visa test account card number:
4111-111-1111-11111 (the #4 and sixteen 1′s).
Use any expiration date at least one day in advance of the date you are testing your links. So if today is April 6th, 2013 you’d want to use for the expiration date field at least April 7th 2013 or later.
4: Then press the “Buy” button to complete the order.
If you have your cart and payment gateway set up correctly, the shopping cart will credit card should DECLINE the charge. That means at every thing should be set up correctly and ready to go.
However, there is one caveat here. In some cases, a “decline message” does not necessarily mean that the gateway has been configured correctly, it could also mean that the gateway is configured incorrectly.
For example, some gateways (such as Authorize.Net) return specific decline messages when the order was declined due to an invalid credit card vs. because the gateway isn’t configured correctly.
So to double check you should also process what’s called “a true test order.”
There are two ways to do this.:
1. Put the gateway into test mode. The process varies gateway by gateway and merchants should contact their gateway provider for more information.
In test mode, all transactions are approved; even those using 4111 1111 1111 1111.
2. Use a legitimate (real) credit card number. Merchants do not have to purchase one of their own products, I would suggest purchasing a $1.00 item.
